M. C. Kejriwal Vidyapeeth in collaboration with The Birdwatchers’ Society organized Walk by Sound, a bird-watching trip, at Botanical Garden on 23 and 24 September 2023.

The main objective of this unique activity was to introduce our boys to the world of birds, enhance their observation power along with developing patience, and simultaneously calling attention to the need of bird conservation.

A presentation on bird watching and identification techniques was made by Mr Bharatendra Singh Parihar, a member of Birdwatchers’ Society. He familiarized our students with the various ways of identifying birds based on their shape, size, colour pattern, beak, wing, tail, legs, behaviour and habitat. Every group of ten students was accompanied by one bird guide in their walk, assisting in spotting and identifying different species of bird using devices like binoculars, telescope or by listening to bird calls. It was an amazing experience to be in the company of rare birds like the yellow-footed green pigeons, the purple sunbird, the jungle babbler, the lineated barbet, the coppersmith barbet, the black drongo, the bronze-winged jacana and many others.

Besides nurturing admiration for nature and its beautiful creations, this short field trip developed a sense of social responsibility for creating an environment for birds to live under the care of nature.
