MCKV Olympiad 2024, our Annual Sports Meet, a vibrant celebration of athletic talent, teamwork, perseverance and discipline was held on December 14 at the HIT Stadium. The day buzzed with excitement as students, teachers and parents came together to witness the display of unmatched enthusiasm on the field.
The day began by welcoming and felicitating the Guests Of Honour, Mr Akash Ganguly, an advocate at the Calcutta High Court and Mr Rishabh Verma, the Operations Head at Tata Consultancy, Kolkata, who are also the members of MCKV Alumni. Our Chairman, Mr Kishan Kumar Kejriwal declared that next session onwards our school will be co-educational for Class XI. With the speech of our respected Principal, Ms Sharmilee Bandyopadhyay, highlighting the achievements of our school in different athletic events, the need to uphold the values of our school  keeping the sportsmanship spirit alive to ensure a fine display of skill in the event, the day proceeded with the ceremonial act of lighting the torch followed by a spectacular display of unity and coordination through the March Past. The NCC cadets, MCKV Scouts and students from the four houses clad in vibrant uniforms marched to the rhythmic beats of the drum uplifting the spirit of our school with the formation of its initial letters, MCKV. The oath taking ceremony reinforced the athletes’ pledge to keep the spirit of sportsmanship alive. The meet was then declared open by the Guests Of Honour after everyone joined in to sing the School Anthem.
The events were a galore of excitement, energy and competitive spirit. From thrilling track races to skilful field events, each moment was packed with enthusiasm. The fancy walk titled ‘ Parade Of Nations’ by the tiny tots of Pre-Nursery, Nursery, KG, Classes 1 & 2, representing four nations- USA, China, Japan and Australia depicted creativity at its best. The various races with the fascinating titles were appealing and the display of unwavering determination by the little ones of KG, Pre- Nursery and Nursery was heart-warming. The racing event, ‘A Quick Wit Can Solve Most Problems’ brought love, cheer and praise to the little participants which brightened their day. The racing events specially the Obstacle race and Relay race were an overwhelming display of perseverance and skill to keep one motivated even in the face of hurdles. The racing event arranged for the children of Bal Vikas Kendra created an opportunity to build their self-esteem by presenting their talent amidst everyone.
The drill presentations titled ‘Planting For The Future’ for Classes 3 and 4 and ‘Frost to Flora’ for Classes 5 and 7 were a display of wonderful coordination in the effortless and seamless flow of movements making the actions appear graceful when executed. The formations related to the global issues of protecting our planet by reducing waste and planting trees on one hand to combatting climate change on the other were relevantly put up by the participants.
The Karate presentation, with the title, Combat Sports and the Yoga performance stood out among all the events displaying a blend of mental and physical strength needed to stay calm and focussed for ones overall well being.
The participation of the members of the Alumni in the racing event deserves a special mention as the smile and excitement on their faces reflected how closely knit our MCKV family is, wherein, everyone associated form an integral part of the institution.
The sporting events were interspersed with prize distribution ceremony where the winners, with a sparkle of pride and fulfilment in their eyes made their way to the victory stand.
The Retreat March Past marked the formal end of the sporting events and it was followed by the Guest Of Honour’s speech, who, expressed their appreciation of the efforts of all involved in putting up a fine show in today’s Sports meet and encouraged the students to put their best foot forward at all tough times so that they can shine and inspire others.
The meet was then declared close by our Guest of Honour, Mr Rishabh Verma. The day’s programme drew to a close with a Vote of Thanks proposed by our respected Headmaster, Mr Biswajit Majumdar ,which was followed by paying tribute to the nation by singing the National Anthem.
